SYSCON-PlantStar and Kepware Technologies Announce a Partnership to Design and Market a New Line of OPC Servers for the Plastics Industry
SYSCON International (South Bend, IN), a leading supplier of Manufacturing Execution and Monitoring Systems and Kepware Technologies (Portland, ME), a leading worldwide supplier of OPC client/server technology announced today a strategic partnership to bring a new, comprehensive suite of OPC server products named OPC-IM™, unified communications and data-mapping for injection molding applications.
Richard Goldstein, Vice President of SYSCON International said, “The goal of this new partnership with Kepware is the development of a new, standardized data map, OPC server product line that is geared specifically to the injection molding market. The partnership couples Kepware’s experience in OPC technologies with SYSCON’s years of integration with virtually every brand of injection molding systems. The result is a high performance product that delivers a standardized data map solution over every vendor supported for data collection and analysis. Because specialized program charts are eliminated, a substantial savings in acquisition and application of specialized software development is realized.”
The design of this new product line uses unique communications drivers for each make of injection molding manufacture or communications standard. The initial drivers that are being shown at NPE are the SPI Interface and Euromap 63. These two widely accepted standards for injection molding communications are the starting point for the injection molding suite of drivers for each injection molding manufacturer.
“As with KEPServerEX, the new OPC-IM™ Servers will present a single user interface for all communications drivers to PLC’s, SCADA and other automation platforms. This new OPC server product line fully integrates with the same ease of use familiarity that Kepware’s customers are accustomed too,” says Mark Hensley, President of Kepware Technologies.
“The real benefit of the OPC-IM™ Server is its unified name space,” continues Hensley. Like any OPC server, accessing the correct data within a given device requires knowing the correct location and the proper format of the data. To eliminate this concern, the new OPC server will automatically generate an OPC tag database that provides direct access to every key operational parameter and value regardless of the attached injection molding system. For systems integrators and application developers, they will be able to write their OPC applications one time and use it with any injection molding system for which SYSCON and Kepware develop a driver, without ever changing their application.
SYSCON International and Kepware will co-market the resulting OPC-IM™ of OPC Servers.
